Slightly OT:Anyone else have an ugly table?

I was outside this morning working on a batch of Clay Q's pulled beef and I'm looking at my table thinking "Man, is that thing ugly!".Then I started thinking about all of the really neat tables I've seen on the Forum. Then I thought "why should they have all the fun and glory??" So I'm putting up a few pics of my table. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Right? Enjoy
The 2 year old table
A little closer
A little patina
Listing to the right a little
Sooner or later I'm eventually going to get an outdoor kitchen built. If my table collapses, I'll have to speed the project up. :woohoo:

Brian,
Everything looks great, except the slight lean you have going. I would say get it braced up to avoid a bad fall. A good sanding and re-finish would give it a 'new life' look too, but true cooking milage is a thing of beauty. -
the primary question is : "does it work?" maybe this will help, i always tell alyce when she comments on the grease spots on my shirt, "Great Meal!!" - end of discussion - egg on my good man

I wasn't that impressed till I saw the last photo with the pronounced LEAN! That might give me concern for supporting the fragile egg...just be careful moving it around!
The one I built recently (as a newbie) is cypress, it's pretty (fresh spar varnish), but I have regrets. I'd advise anyone not to invest heavily in egg table or built in kitchen until you've scratched all your toy itches. I have way too many to fit my modestly sized table. I think I'm about done, but a second egg is possibility. Finishing two foods at markedly different temps at same time can be really frustrating on one egg. Alas, the Weber gasser is still participating for this reason, albeit usually as a warmer. -
Yours looks better than mine. Plus my bottom horizontal board by the wheel broke. I built it myself and spent a lot. Looking for a large nest now.

Brian ...It is REALLY UGLY!!!!! ......but who cares my friend !!!!!!!! :P Your cooks are GREAT!!

That's like calling wrinkles "Character Lines". Well mine certainly has some mileage and character lines. She was a thing of beauty when Sparky got her finished, but sadly I neglected her. I was waiting for the wood to cure a bit before staining and sealing. Weeks turned to months before I got around to it. By then she was stained and had lots of splits. Looked pretty damn good again after I finished, but less than one year later and some serious GA sunshine, the Minwax poly spar is flaking and peeling. Looks like crap again. Need to do a serious sanding, restaining and sealing, but can't bear the thought of lifting the egg out and doing this in the forementioned GA heat.

That is a table with a lot of Eggsperience! :woohoo:

Adam, With my woodworking skills, it will wind up even uglier after I work on it...guaranteed!

Mr Toad-Thanks for the encouragement. I, too, wear some of what I cook.

If you can fix that lean, I'd power wash it, stain it and polyurethane it. If not, I'd get your Egg out ASAP.
-
H20egg-Believe it or not, mine's cypress too. But it started looking bad in it's first year. I even used to cover it all the time, but it still started fading and turning gray.
Brian -
Al-You've given me something to aspire to!!

That thing could be 'one bump' from SMASH
and let me just say from experience, that's one of the worst feelings that can be had. :pinch: -
Ouch :pinch: sorry to hear that.
-
Brian .. give me a call and I'll give you a hand. Actually it does look well used. I'll come up and help you brace it. I think you underestimate your woodworking skills. Your egg carrier really works great!
-
that's called "patina"..... unless you have an OCD..... lol..... my table started off looking gorgeous.... but has aged.... just like me... and some old hags i date.... lol...rr
-
hey, i don't have any tables!! ....every time i think about spending money on a table, i think about how much good meat i can buy for that money and, well, easy decision. ...
-
Hungrymans is worse, I can vouch for that. He is going to come home one day and his egg will be on the ground laying in a heap of wood.Happily egging on my original large BGE since 1996... now the owner of 5 eggs. Call me crazy, everyone else does!
3 Large, 1 Small, 1 well-used Mini -
Brian, I think I had you beat before refinishing
-
Beli-If I had your photography skills, I could make that thing look like a work of art!
Brian -
Jeffersonian-I have the large Egg in the photo. I have another large in a nest.I'm thinking about getting a new table built for both of them.
-
Dale, How many cases of beer do you think it would take to brace it?

Ranger Ray-I'f your dating hags, you must not be cooking the right food for them. When I showed my secretary some pics of my egg food, she told me if a man would cook like that for her that "her clothes would fall off" :woohoo: :woohoo:
Brian -
Max- Here's an idea for you. Tell Fred Bernardo that this Thanksgiving your fee for the Mad Max Turkey Cooking Seminar is.........a table!!! :woohoo:
Brian -
Faith, That would be a shame, but it would be make great pic for the forum...
Brian -
Pat, I saw your refinished table at the Sunshine Fest. I was thinking about leaving Woodbutcher in Florida and putting your table in his seat of the Suburban!
BC -
Gary, you're getting there. I'd remove the shelf paper on the bottom shelf if you want to try and catch me! :P
