Nothing like a BLT with fresh tomatoes from the garden!

Gotta agree with that. Good eats. Comfort food.
I actually prefer what we here in the South affectionately call a mater sammich.
White bread, the softer the better, mayo (Duke's only), salt, pepper, and a thick slice of mater still hot since you just picked it. -
Oh Yea!! Nothin' better!! 8 - ),,,

Richard that is why I spend the spring tilling my garden,Ilove the fresh tomatoes in the summer.
GOOD EATS AND GOOD FRIENDS

Me too. Even my kids (11, 9, 7, 2.5) love them. They won't touch store bought tomatoes.
-
Fabulous, and I love your choice of dinnerware.
-
BLTs just would not taste right eaten off a regular plate.
-
Bash, your BLT looks fabulous.
I have some pork belly curing for some maple bacon. Should have it ready to smoke this weekend. Our tomatoes are just coming ripening and I hope to have some BLTs. -
I have to agree. I love BLT's, but a mater sandwich is something special. So messy you need to lean over the sink while eating it.
-
Last week I made BLTs for the family. Been so long I forgot to pickup the L. I'll have to try again this week.
-
Dammit you got me salivating all over the place! :P
-
Fidel -- agreed, although I do stray a bit from southern tradition and prefer Hellmann's....though I have never been known to turn down Duke's.
-
I've read some threads on making bacon, but have not been brave enough to try. Do post, and one of these days I may give it a shot. Dry aged steaks are on the list to try too... one day.
-
The L doesn't add much, in my opinion. Toasted rye, mayo, maters, and thick bacon. Mmmmm good.
-
I hate it when that happens!
You are welcome  -
my tomatoes are still green, had to settle for a tuna melt last week at camp. cant wait thoughfukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it
-
Oh yea. If you come away clean from a mater sammich you were doing it wrong.
-
blasphemy
-
Get this -- I've also been know to (on occasion) make my mater samwich with yellow or even (gasp!) purple tomatoes.
I'd better quit now before I get banished to somewhere above the M-D line. -
I hear ya. I made some with cherokee purple maters a couple weeks ago and they were incredible.
-
You guys are killing me! A mater sandwich is the best! I could go on about sloppy sandwich combos. The messier the the better!!Molly

I know that's right Rod but, I can take a thick slice out of the middle with s&p and a fork and cram that sucker in my mouth so fast! Nothing left but the meowing. :P Yum yum
