Butt Help -- PLEASE!!!!

I went to bed and my fire was at 246 and my butts were at 65
I woke up and my fire is at 244 and my butts are at 193
Are they still safe to eat? My fire didn't go out or anything.
Oh yea, and they are done a little earlier than my anticipated 1.75632 hours per pound. How long can I hold them before serving? I'm not expecting any company so it really doesn't matter when I eat.
Seems to be an otherwise boring Saturday morning.

Sorry to hear about the butts Fidel. If they had just gone 1.8000 hours per pound they would have been salvageable. You can always do what Stike does and dry age them for 45 days. :blink:

Sounds like my yesterday. Served up one butt at 1:30 and the boys and I ate most of the other at 5:30. I had pulled the butts at 10:30am. So I can testify that a 7 hr cooler hold can be had (cooler sat in the sun). tummies all good so far :P Cinnamon rolls just came off and then to try egrets brownies and some pig candy for the kids baseball party. They put me in charge of the desserts. :pinch: -

I have two cracked fire rings and 3 toasted gaskets. My eggs held 250 all night. I started putting the meat in the cooler, but I had to kick the eggs up to 300 to make sure they all finish What's up with that?? -
My firebox and fire ring are both cracked, and I have no "officially approved" gasket on mine either

Boy I see the problem, you’re trying to hide your mistake with sarcasm. Nevertheless, you’ve done the right thing to come here for advice. Clearly you should have stabilized the egg at 250 before going to bed. The data clearly indicates that your temperature was too low, and the fact that your butts are only at 193 is confirmation of that. I would err on the side of good sense & caution and throw those butts out. You are taking a huge risk if you eat them. The rest of your query is therefore irrelevant. In the future, pay closer attention to the rules and you won’t have this problem. I follow the rules closely and all 6 times I made butts they came out great. Happy egging
