custom table question

i have decided to buy a large egg and plan to construct a stand based on the plans from the website. i know that Green Egg makes the table in Cypress wood. any of you out there built one and if so what kind of wood did you use? any other helpful tips? thanks a bunch!!!

Cypress is a good choice, easy to work with, naturally resistant to bugs and rot.

cypress, cedar, or redwood work well for outdoors. Teak and mahogany would also work but a little pricey.

I used cypress and am happy with it. You might think about enclosing a portion for storage. I've found it is very nice to have everything I need, protected and all in one place. I posted this in another thread this morning. Just one man's option.

PINE WORKS FINE! Prime and Paint the boards with Deck Stain and you will save a LOT of money and it will last for years. My table is two years old and looks brand new...you do need to cover it and keep it clean to prolong it's life however regardless of what materials you choose.

I'm currently building one out of cedar. The boards were a reasonable price at Lowe's and I'm happy with how it looks so far.
