Memphis BBQ

Well, I posted about a month ago indicating we would be in Memphis for a soccer tournament and here we are. I am with a bunch of folks and we are real close to the Commissary BBQ place so that is where we went last night. Quaint little place. Very nice people. Very busy but they got us in in about 45 minutes so we just hung out drinking our favorite beverage.

I must say the food was pretty good. Actually maybe better than expected. We had ribs and BBQ nachos. The ribs were wet for Memphis standards from what I understand. They were pretty and actually cooked just about perfect. The seasoning they use is really good. The BBQ nachos, to me, were great. Shredded pork shoulder over chips with a really decent queso. Added some jalapenos and off to the races we were. Really enjoyed those.

Looking to try another BBQ place tonight or maybe Gus's Fried Chicken.

If you've never had Gus's.... it's a "got to go"... ask for honey ... Gus's with a squirt of honey - it will be served in heaven :P

We stopped at one joint shown on Food Network. The show couldn't say enough about the place.

It was average at best.

I think my problem is comparing my ribs and pork to the mass produced food.

Mine is usually much better and that certaily was the case on Highway 61.

Gus' chicken is the best we have ever had, thank's to Hoss because he turned us on to Gus'.

Been there 3 times in 2 yrs and we are ready to go back
