Meat Cleaver-Where to buy?
Hungry in Lilburn
Posts: 756
I live in Lilburn which is right outside of Atlanta. I am thinking I need to go buy a meat cleaver because I may be having chopped pork instead of pulled pork tonight. Where is the best place to go buy one? Bed, Bath and Beyond? Macy's? Any other ideas? I don't really want to go into Atlanta on Good Friday because the drive could be intense-hours!

 foil it, even add a little juice or seltzer water in the foil, it will fall apart, just keep cooking it.fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

Fish is right HIL, dont sweat it. It will pull.
But, regarding a clever....you ever go to Restaurant Depot? -
Agreed! Wait for 195 and use a couple of forks.
As to your question though, my BBB doesn't have them in the store. Online, but not local. I never go to Macy's if I can help it (I try to avoid malls!!) so I don't know. Williams-Sonoma has the $170+ Shun and there's a store in Buford.
I recently bought a CCK brand vegetable cleaver (don't plan to chop Q with it though - very thin) from chefknivestogo for about $40. Love it. Won't help you for tonight though. If you can wait, they have a good selection.
If you have a nearby asian market, you might find something there. Probably in the lower price category.I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

If you can't get it to the pull into threads stage before you have to serve it, it will still pull into pieces pretty easily. If it doesn't fall part, you can slice it. Good in each case.

I like to use an Asian style cleaver which has a thinner blade for slicing. No need for the regular heavy cleaver unless cutting through bones...
You should be able to find one pretty cheap at the Super H mart near you off I85 at Pleasant Hill.

Both places have cleavers, but, I'm sure you have a 20% discount ad from BB and B.Those coupons have a time limit on them; here in Gainesville they take them regardless of the date limit. However, Fishlessman is correct, but you may have a live chicken around. Be prepared.

I agree with Vidalia..I have two cleavers from the wok shop..one for veggies and one for meat. They are easy to sharpen and a good price.

IK prefer the chinese as previously mentioned, but like the round wooden handles as they are lighter and fit my hands better.

These are some styles, but you can get them for $10-$15 if in an oriental site that is CHEEPER.
Round metal handles are also comfortable and affordable. The one on the left of the pics will work with pork rib and poultry bones.
Same source as Vidalia! just different page.

We talked on phone after I posted. I am going to have to check out this resturant depot!
-
Super H Mart? Is that near the IHOP?

WOW! Those are great! Actually, it seems eveyone thinks these things are going to pull easily. I will take my big chef knife and chop any bark that doesn't break up easily and it should be all right. Will still buy a cleaver for GP.
