Will this work? Roasting hot dogs...

So my six year old is having her first sleep over tonight, having a friend stay the night. Wanted to do something fun and she wants hot dogs for dinner. Surely I get a good fire going an put the dogs on a stick and let the girls roast'em, right?

    Don't forget the smores! ;)
  • Should work fine, as long as they aren't wearing anything with loose dangling sleeves. Lighting her friends on fire would probably go over poorly with their folks. :)

The other thing is that you're going to go through a lot of lump with the lid open and a hot fire. You may need to add some during the cook.

    Have fun,

Be careful. One of our members had a hot ember spark into his eye about a year ago, requiring medical attention. A 6 year olds head will be pretty close to the heat.
    Sorry to be negative.

Thanks everyone, just the info I was looking for. Think I'll just let'em watch ME cook them.

I'd get the fire going fine but close off the bottom vent while the dome is open - at least that will keep the fire from becoming a blast furnace.

My favorite cooking activity with my 5 year old girl is making pizza. I do all the grill work and she does the assembly, even rolling out the dough(from local pizzarea). It took a few times to teach her, but she has it down now.

Why don't you just put the dogs on the grate, close the lid, and let them roast? Just having the friend spend the night will be pretty exciting for the girls.
