Cutting a fire ring

Anybody ever try to cut their fire ring? I have a fire ring that is broken in half, the pieces fit together so it still works ok. I got a replacement ring and was thinking of cutting the broken one laterally so I would have more options for adjusting grid height. Would a tile blade work?
