Ordered the Guru instead of Stoker

after MUCH deliberation I decided on the DigiQ II instead of the Stoker and ordered it this morning. I love technology, and I thougth the ability to check cooking temps on the internet would be a cool thing. But, the Stoker was about $100 more for my setup, I would have also had to buy a wireless bridge, and I saw some videos online about setting up the Stoker. It looked terribly complicated. With the guru, you just set your temps and walk away.
Anyway, I hope I don't regret it.

Yeah, that's pretty much how it is. If you are cooking the same thing again, you don't even have to set the temps because the last setpoints stay in memory. -
I do not know about stoker but I know Guru has very good customer service

You won't regret it. Either unit would be good, but you made your choice based on your needs, which is the right way to go.The Naked Whiz

I am thinking about making the same purchase..
I mean if the stoker had WI-Fi(which i hear it will in the future), then that would be a different story.
Keep us updated on your thoughts. -
For overnights its the only way to go. I have a hard time using a can opener. Don't need another agrivation is why I went with the Q and have not been dissapointed.

I completely agree with the Whiz here. Once you know what you are looking for and at, the choice is much easier. I'm sure you will be very pleased with it.

Well, pulling it up on the computer would certainly have "wow" factor with friends, I just don't see that it is really necessary. I mean, as long as there is lump in the pit the Guru should hold the temp steady. And that is all I was looking for anyway. At least that is what I am trying to convince myself since I pulled the trigger.

I just upgraded my trusty Pit Viper with a new DigiQ II. I stuck with the guru simply because it is a plug-in upgrade;
no need for a new fan or adapter.
Good eggin'

I know the Guru will do the job but I rally like the fact that I can monitor the meats and have the ability to change the pit temp on my computer and iphone when I am away from home.
I also can control my two sons pits located at their homes when they are away from their homes. This works great when we have large parties. We all have the Xl Egg and Stokers -
I love my Stoker but many on here use the guru. I like the fact that I don't have to go downstairs and put any more wear and tear on my worn old knees. I think you will happy with either unit, both companies stand behind their great products. Congrats!

I have had my Guru Q2 for three years, you well love it and they have supper customer service

I hope you are correct GreenFan! I ordered my Guru last week and expect it any day now

I have my Stoker working as I write this. I agree, both have their niche. I chose the Stoker due to the flexibility issues regarding wireless access. I will end up owning both like many of the people on here I admire. I may wait until the Guru develops solid wireless access. I feel they are both fine additions to the Egg. Having about 100 cooks under my stretching belt without either, it's important to know how to use you Egg without either at first. Some longer cooks, I do it the old school way just so I don't lose that finesse. Enjoy your new purchase!!! Keep us posted on how you like it?
