One of my wife's favorites, and while these certainly wouldn't put Central Grocery out of business, they were pretty darn good in their own right.
Simple Italian bread dough brushed with olive oil and sesame seeds. About 9-10" in diameter.
On the Egg at 400*, pulled at 208 internal, about 30 mins.
Not a great slicing job, my bread knife is not long enough to go all the way through, but it worked out
Mortadella, provolone, Spicy Capicola, Genoa salami, Fontina, olive salad and a little mayo. They say it's blasphemy to heat a muffuletta but my wife likes the cheese melted and a little mayo. Other than that, it was fairly authentic.
Turned out very well, everyone enjoyed and the game was great!

Those look great. We made some yesterday, not anywhere near as authentic as yours but pretty good for a couple of Yankees  We have been using bottled Olive Salad Mix. "Giuliano Italian Style Muffuletta" probably notas good as Central Groceries but not bad.
Won't be back to "who dat" country for another year or so :(

delicious looking sandwich, great job on it!! no matter how you sliced it.

Looks fantastic. Muffulettas are some of the best sandwiches I have ever had - anywhere. Yours looks like it could rival some of the best.
-
That looks tremendous. Do you make your own olive salad. Do you mind telling me what you put in it?
-
Thanks all. Tarpon- I bought a jar of Italian style marinated olives, peppers, pimentos, garlic, etc. that just looked good. Drained and diced everything up then added some of the oil/ liquid back in.

Holy sh@$! that looks awesome! I never think of this stuff!

JB, that is a perfect New Orleans sandwhich for a Superbowl party! It looks sooooo tasty.

JB - Having had many a muffy from CG, I can say that you would have made many a "Who Dat" happy with your version. Very nice.
I once had muffies fedexed by CG to Columbus, MS for a Mardi Gras Party along with jars of the olive mix on the side. -
That looks really good! Could you describe a little more about how much dough you use for each piece? Is it basically the same as a pizza, but not stretched out as far?
Weight of the dough or cups of flour would be excellent. -
Bob- sorry for the late reply, traveling this week and just had a chance to check the forum. The dough was a simple italian bread dough, similar to pizza dough, I have the recipe back at home. Was right at a pound of dough total then sliced in half to make the bun. I can shoot you the recipe if you want it.
