Dumb question - raised grid and alum foil?

Planning on doing a batch of wings today for the superbowl.....went to three stores yesterday trying to find firebricks so I can raise the grid, with no luck!
Today I found the post on naked wiz's site talking about ordering them from Ace....so I may end up going that route....
But for today....is it possible to raise the grid using balls of alum. foil?? Can't really think of anything else I could use.
Thanks in advance!

Anything you can get to raise it will work. Rocks. Angle iron.
If you want to run up to the house I have a BGE grid extender you can have, I never use it. I'll be home all day. -
That will work just fine!Molly

Yup, rocks work well.
Foil would work great also. Just 4 little 3-4 inch towers.
smooshed beer cans.... -
4 Bolts 12 nuts 12 washers you can build a nice second level.
You can get a 18" grid for 10$ at home depot.
Check out this on how to do it (just do it with one!):

Good point. Bente actually has a shot where he uses yuengling (god I love that beer) cans upright with a grid on top.
Just use 3 and you'll be set. Oh yea, empty them first. -
Matt....my wife says the pics you posted in the other link are IMPRESSIVE! ;-)
Rod....thank you so much for the offer!! I may take you up on that at a later date....today is going to be crazy hectic!
Getting more excited about my cook now!! I'll probably going the foil route and will let you know how it goes
Thanks again! -
Do you still open the can turn it up and poke a hole in the bottom? just wondering!
-
you could use regular bricks
-
Rod,
I miss that beer sooo much :pinch: -
We poke the hole first and then put your mouth over the hole and open the can.
-
Thanks Adam it been a while!
-
I can't imagine there will be any empty beer cans available today
-
rocks will explode! foil gives off fumes! cans have paint on them and everyone will die!
the sky is falling!
(feeling impish today) -
Wow! What a display of behavior! :woohoo:

If you are not going to cook at super high heat use some empty food or pop cans, if that is too high lay the can's on their side and flatten a little so they won't roll.
Rocks, foil anything will work.
GG -
cut the cans to the correct height with a a pair of tins snips.... if' you're using beer cans.... you can cut em with regular scissors....
