Roll Tide

Guys, I am going to get a bge this weekend. Currently I do not have the best place to set it up and I will be rolling it away from the house to cook on and then rolling back after the cook. Therefore, my questions are; How fragile is the ceramic on the bge? Should I worry about the egg breaking with the rolling across the lawn? I know this isn't ideal, but I will probably have to deal with until I finish my patio...

also, I meant to ask how many of you guys have broken parts or all of your egg? If so, how did it happen. It kinda makes me nervous dealing with my current set-up, but I am ready for a bge

Why not set up a semi-permanent spot in the yard for it? Keep it covered and leave it stationary on a few paver stones from Home Depot.

No problem at all....you may want to lokk into the new nest roller...forget the technical name...works like a hand truck..and works well
-
I keep mine in the garage and roll out the door to cook.

Just keep saying the BGE mantra:
"PULL. DON'T PUSH." -
I do have the nest for it.

and pull by the hinges. Wouldn't to have it tip over and break because you pulled by the handle.

This accessory makes the egg much more stable, especially when moving across the ground.

They do work great Wess, we drug a lot of eggs through the mud with that at eggtoberfest

That is really neat. Do you guys think that it would be okay to roll across gravel using the nest handler? If I could roll it out and then keep in garage when not in use that would be awesome. We just moved into our new home and haven't paved the drive way, yet.

Thanks guys, This is just another reason I am really interested in the bge as opposed to another kamado. The comeradery, support, information, and willingness to help each other out is outstanding here.

Damn shame you didnt get to cook on any of them....Rat bahstads..I say...hang em all by the mast...

I keep mine in the garage; we roll it out and onto a pallet that we put down (we have a concrete lip and the drive is gravel)... I have the newer nest; seems real sturdy. I'm thinking you'll be fine.

Bingo.....

Roll Tide,
It is worth the investment in some good silicone casters from Fastenal or somewhere like that. Makes it a whole lot more stable.

Gene,
Is that a retrofit or did you get a new egg?

When we got our Large BGE, we had a friend help roll it over the grass to our back patio. We pulled it by the spring side, not the handle side.
I just had the misfortune of breaking my Daisy Wheel. I was trying to hurry and open the lid and poor Daisy fell off and hit the ground, smack. The only issue was that the formed piece that holds the handle broke off (amazing). We called our dealer to order a new one and they sold us one off a floor model (nice) for half of what a new one would cost. There wasn't any way I could claim it was under "warranty".
Welcome to the group. And have fun with your egg.
