Just pulled a 6.5 lb brisket off the grill, had been on since 7 am (CST) this morning. Replaced it with a 16 lb turkey. Cooked the brisket at 250-275*, ran it up to 325* for the turkey.
Had a tough time getting the grill going this morning with our 20-30 mph winds. Starter sticks wouldn't stay lit. Finally used the chimney. I guess a torch would have fixed the problem, but it all worked out. I did bring the plate setter inside last night to avoid having to bring it up to temp, was in the low 20's. The BGE did a great job of holding it's temp in spite of the wind.
We have a large group tomorrow so doing the grilling today.

Alright, keep up the good work! Tim

No real need to take the setter in the house, the egg will heat itself up and whatever you put inside.
"starter sticks"?
Try using Paper towel and oil to light. Works great and with the dome closed the wind won't matter much.
Paper Towel & Oil to light the lump
The egg is a fantastic cooker.

FWIW i have never seen the bge be affected by wind.
glad to hear everything else went fine. -
Thanks for the info. Will try the paper towel and oil approach. The starter sticks normally work well, but the wind (lid up) keep blowing the sticks out before they could really get going. But all's well, finished the turkey while the foiled brisket "rested". Both in the frig awaiting the family gathering tomorrow.
