Prime Rib - what to cook on?

When cooking Prime Rib - would I just put the meat directly on the grill rack (just like cooking pork butt)

I was thinking I would put it in a roasting pan but the mad max recipe just shows the placesetter - drip pan and mean directly on the rack!

Thoughts?

I put mine on the grid with plate setter and drip pan underneath. I followed drbbq's video exactly, and it turned out wonderful.

if the roast you have has the bones on, the bones act as their own rack. ..even if its boneless, the side where the bones are has a layer of fat/sinew that protects the meat. .. just lay that side right on the grid over the plate setter with a drip pan on the plate setter.. .that is more than a sufficient heat barrier....

that being said, if you want it in a roasting pan with thick cut veggies, you can certianly go that route too. . .but certainly not neccessary. .. .
