How much lump

On my previous long cooks, I have filled the egg beyond the firebox and an inch or so up the fire ring. I am planning a 5 butt cook and, working with what I have I am planning on removing the fire ring, putting the plate setter on the box leggs up, CI grid on that with firebricks and standard grid on that.

Does this sound like it will work as far as air flow and available space for lump. I use Royal Oak.

If this sounds risky I still have time to buy another egg toy.

Why the CI grid and fire bricks?

I thought I'd need the space to fit in the 5 butts. yah think I can get them on one level?

I don't see why it wouldn't work. I am sure someone will come in that has done something like that. I cooked four 7# buts on my large with standard setup. platesetter feet up with main grid. I stacked the top butt and rotated it some at first to get more bark. As they cooked and shrunk some their was lot less touching of the bottom butts.

    Thanks,

This is a big family event and I'm a little nervous I guess. 70 are invited and I've never cooked for more than 8.

What about cooking the butts in advance and putting in food saver bags? Butt reheats great! That way no stress all will be ready for the event just reheat and get the sides ready?
