To clean gunk off a platesetter, is the best method to place dirty side down and crank the heat?
Just wondering if you guys have a preferred method.

yep, fill up your egg to the top of your fire ring and let her rip. Your platesetter will come out white. But before you do that, get a gasket as a spare. That is the way to make it white again. Scrape the chunks off and toss it on.

gunk side towards the fire and let er rip.

I usually wrap the top, legs up of the plate setter and then after a cook or two just replace the foil. When it gets too bad, do as the others after a cook, just open top and bottom and 'er her rip.

Paint scraper does it for me.

I wrap mine in foil if I'm cooking something that might soak into it..As Richard said...every now and then a pizza cook will get like new...

I have watched the forum about the gaskets---soooo you find the gasket an important piece of the cook? Some say why bother. BTW--love learning from you...

To clean the place setter. I just stick it in my oven. crank the oven to 550 degrees for 1 hour... then run it through an auto clean cycle...
Its quite cheaper than letting 5-9 pounds of charcoal burn.
But there is a catch. It has to fit in the oven.
