Anyone ever Smoke/indirect cook Tilapia? I have done it with Salmon with pleasing results. Thinking about trying to do it with Tilapia.
Thanks and everyone have a good weekend

I cooked it once on the egg and the results were not good. The tilapia I cooked had been frozen, and later I read on here that tilapia previously frozen is presently worthless. I have yet to try cooking some fresh tilapia.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for but I do Tilapia Pecandine (or almondine but we like pecans better). Let me know if you want more info. I cook it indirect on a CI skillet on my BGE...

Is using a CI skillet give you the same effect as frying on a stovetop? I was thinking of using a plate setter, drip pan, placing fish on grid the smoking/cook at 225 until 120-140 temp of fish. Just was wondering if you or anyone else has done this w/ Tilapia. Thanks

Yes using a CI skillet is like frying the fish. I use EVOO or butter melted and then fry the lightly battered fish. I do it direct on a raised grid. I think you are smoking yours.

I do mine on a cedar plank. I like the taste and the ease of cooking. I season with some Old Bay.

That what I like about smoking, no flipping, no flare up, no breaking into pieces.

Just did some last week. They came out great. I used direct but in direct should work just fine. I took Mr. tilapia and bathed him in some DP Raging River dust while the grill was heating up to 350/400 range. Wiped some EVOO on the grill to keep Mr. Tilapia from sticking. Cooked at 5 minutes per side, perfect The fish was gotten out of the fresh fish display at Krogers.

My Wife is getting some from Costco in fresh section. That is the only way to go. Frozen fish is just not the same. thanks for info

I have done a lot of blackened tilapia on the BGE. Tastes great!
