High Temperature Silicone Question

Thanks for the help on my damper folks. I am having some difficulty with the silicone. The Egg people say to use high temp. silicone found at auto parts stores..and they supposedly have clear. My local auto folks have a non temp rated clear silicone....a RED silicone rated at 650 degrees and a copper color rated at 700 degrees...mfg. by Permatex. I cannot find a clear high temperature silicone. The regular silicone...I think...Is rated to only 400 degrees...so I really don't want to use it to seal my SS damper door.
HELP appreciated.

i don't think there IS a clear above 400.

it really won't get over 400 anyway

So is any old 100% silicone clear sufficient for this task? Do you promise?

i'm saying that i'm pretty sure the 400 degree stuff is safe, but not just "any old".

call HQ. ask for John or Bobby.

Well...its done. I used regular silicone rated to 400 degrees. I assume this is the coolest part of the grill...and that it it were bad....there would be loads of posts from those that thougth it was a mistake. I am hoping for the best. It looks like a nice, clean, and air tight install.

oh, it'll get hot as hell down there, but i shut my metal lower vent with bare foot all the time. i can't see that silicone getting to 400 or more.
