This one is an appetiser - crackers and a glass of your favorite adult refreshment. It is sweet (obviously) rather than savory.
Balinese sauce (from Catherine Hurn)
Ingredients:
1/2 cup Butter (softened)
3/4 cup Brown Sugar, firmly packed
1/2 cup Walnuts or Pecans, finely chopped (pieces size of small pea)
3/4 cup Coconut (sweetened, flaked)
1 tsp Vanilla Extract
1-2 Tbs Liquer of Choice (brandy or rum seems best)
1 tsp Cinnamon

Frank,
Looks and reads great.
Thank You,
Ross -
I did one last night, it turned out great.
I cut the top rind off and covered with chopped roasted red peppers.
Egged @375-400 for 12-25 mins. until gooey.
Great smoke flavor and an impressive presentation.

I meant 12-15 mins. Sorry

Walt,
Thank You,
Ross -
Here is one I have done up and shared with a group of friends as an appetizer to rave reviews:
Maple planked egged brie cheese
1 maple plank, soaked for a couple of hours
1 or so tbsp Toasted slivered almonds
2 or so tbsp of fruit jam (raspberry, peach, pepper etc)
1 to 2 tsp fresh thyme, chopped
2 to 3 tbsp honey
4 inch wheel of brie
Combine all of the ingredients except the brie. Cut the rind of the top of the brie and coat with the mixture. Cook direct for 20 to 25 minutes at 400.
Since the maple plank was big enough, I did up three wheels, each with a different type of jam!

Charles,
Thank You,

I bet that would be great with grahm crackers!
-
Ross,
I have had a lot of rave reviews using a raspberry-chipotle jam that is sold in stores. I just bake the brie at 350-375 for 12-15 min then, pour the jam on it and bake for another 5 minutes or so.
I serve it with butter crackers. -
Ross,
I like just a hot pepper jelly on top. Especially with a good quality cheese.
