Need help importing an Egg!

I'm working a contract job in Mexico City currently. The good folks at BGE shipped me a Big Green Egg all the way down here.

Now it's stuck in customs awaiting a health certificate- don't ask. Can anyone tell me if the owner's manual has any sort of health dept or UL certification on it they can scan and send to me so I can get my grill out of customs and start making tasty food? :(

Already done- they don't care without a certificate of some sort.

Sorry for your troubles. I imported my BGE to Tampico, but basically it was delivered to the border and then magically appeared at a friend's place and I am not sure how that happened.

I am surprised that there is anything more to it than paying the import duty.

For future reference, the BGE is expensive enough that it should have been shipped to a customs broker at the border and been processed up there.

Me and my Egg are back in the US now. We spent 10 years down there, on three separate assignments and loved it.

You might want to Ping Bali -- he is Mexican and lives in Monterrey, where they make the Egg. He might have some suggestions.

If you have contacts in your company, you might want to see if the locals can help you. Sometimes a facilitating payment will go a long way.

The good news is that there is lots of good lump in Mexico. I loved the stuff made from Ebony.

I don't believe they can. I am not even sure where the factory actually is.

But it seems pretty silly for Mexican Customs people to hold up a shipment the in reality originated in Mexico for health issues.

What concerns do they have?

Just tell them to rinse the Egg down with some of that Mexican water, and everything will be fine. :laugh:

Customs can be funny in any country. I have more trouble shipping American manufactured goods back into the States than Canadian or European stuff.
