Some of the wildest rocks I have seen are in this secret place.

And some really gorgeous wildflowers were blooming.

Good job on the big win!! I haven't been camping this year, but here is my favorite spot in the Snowy Range. I've never taken Eggs along, but I guess you get plenty of practice packing them around Heheee.

We like Swamp Venom in a little butter and lime juice. Going to have to try Shaking the Tree now too. Do you just shake it on or do you put in a baste?

It appears the rock has undergone consider abrasion in the past, probably glaciation. It looks like their are scratches in the rock all going the same direction as the glacier traveled. I also suspect there is a lot more rock below ground then what is exposed.

You're right Damon. Shotgun sat in my Dad's rocking chair and hung out with us for an extended period. It was one of the big highlights of the weekend. Was so nice seeing him back on his feet and in good spirits.

Funny story, we were planning our first winter backpacking trip in the white mountains when a fellow college mate told us we might reconsider. Showed me a list of all the people that died falling into the ravines through the deep snow. We ended up going to the Smokies.

Cool shot! Were you snapping the picture while reeling?

I've seen lots of glacier carved rocks out West (all through the Sierras and the Rockies). I'm thinkin glaciers did do some carving here, but to me it looks like a lot of flowing water was involved. Then again, not being a geologist but spending a whole bunch of time in cool places, I tend to guess a lot. Either way, they're sure fun to look at and ponder.

ive only fallen thru once, landed in a small stream maybe 8 feet down. flukey storm dropped a few feet while i was headed up, mid april, on one of the smaller mountains near washington. found my sleeping bag about 150 feet away, still dry somehow. long time ago, not in good enough shape to go in the winter anymore, camping is fine but not climbing. biggest problem is all the boston/city folk think they are prepared to go winter hiking after stopping off at the llbean and buying gear, there should be a certificate policy for winter hiking in newengland as the cost is high getting unqualified people off the mountain (paid for by the newhampshire fishing department, one of my pet peaves).
