Mini BGE\\\'s Daisy Wheel
Options
Hello Fellow Eggers,
I recently purchased a used mini BGE, and its daisy wheel has four equally spaced ridges on the inside. These ridges allow for significant air flow when the daisy wheel is closed tightly, and make it difficult to maintain a temperature below 400 without fiddling with the bottom draft door.
Do any of you own a mini BGE with a daisy wheel that is smooth on the inside?
Thanks,
Grayson (G3)

The bottom IS where you control major temps. The daisy wheel is for finer control.

my wheel on my xl had 2 bumps which I believe were casting marks. I ground them off with my dremel and it sits and seals better.

Pete can you e mail me when you get a chance. For some reason the e mail I sent you got bounced back.

I just looked at mine and yes there are four ridges. Mine mini is an old one and the new daisy was a little loose so I put a piece of green egg gasket material around the dome neck to tighten it up.
Good Luck,

My mini daisy wheel looks just like that inside, but I have no problems controlling temps in the 275-300 range.

mine fit so poorly that, not only could i not control the temp, but when full closed and the draft door closed it continued to burn till all the lump was gone. i ground the ridges down with my dremel till it seated. have done beef short ribs for 5.5 hours with lump left.
get out the dremel.
check the fit of your draft door too. mine was so loose in the tracks it was useless. i thightened that too..
and check to see if your dome seats, mine did not, as the band was riveted off square and i had to replace that too.
worth the effort.

I bought mine second hand. The guy had wrapped the top of the lid with the gasket material, making it wider and a better seal. He wrapped it about 3 times I think. My daisy top fits snug on my mini.
Hope this helps!

is your base cracked?

Not sure. I haven't used the Daisy when cooking with the mini. I can hold temps from 275° and up by using the lower vent only.
Love the little bugger.

There was a crack in the bottom of the egg, but it has been sealed with JB weld. I think the seal is air tight.
The issue is that the top allows a lot of air flow even when the daisy wheel is completely closed. Smoke pours out from under the daisy wheel when the top has been rotated to a closed position. -
Rick!!?? You are alive!! Where have you been? I was going to post to see if anyone had heard from you lately. Is everything okay? I hope you weren't on a honeymoon with Betty. :woohoo:

I recently bought a mini and the ridges in the daisy were so high that it would not go down over the top at all, it just sat on the top of the vent hole. I used a Dremel to grind them down. -RP
