Loose lower vent sliders

On my small and mini the slider and screen are very loose and will move easily.

I have tried changing the curve of both but not much success. I almost straightened the slider and screen flat and that works somewhat. Some spots are tight and others are pretty loose.

I was thinking of bending the top and bottom U channels but I am concerned about the potential of pinching them.

Anybody had the same problem and corrected it for a tighter fit.
