sitting the egg flat on a paver

I have my egg on a concrete paver pad inside the table I built using the specs, on the BGE site. Does the egg need to be elevated? I read about some peoples splitting etc. I havent had any problems and been using it HEAVILY this way for 6 MO. :huh:

I was advised to put the egg on it's feet on the paver to allow air flow and prevent the paver from heating and cracking. I'm new here but that's the advise I was given.

GO BEARS! Illinois transplant to Alabama..... Ive notice that the paver gets "wet" while cooking. Guess im going to need some feet.

Mine has been sitting on a paver for about 4 years with no problems but like you, I am a little worried after reading about all the cracks.

On a side bar Ive also had a hard time regulating the heat when I use the Green Dome cover for smoking. Any tricks on that?

You need a daisey wheel so the egg can vent. Like a fireplace, it has to have a draft.. I guess.
Live in the south and use gas for heat :woohoo:

I have a daisy wheel and use it, but I thought the green ceramic cover was for the best smoking?..... :blink:

i have been lurking here for a while and seen this ? come up before. conventional wisdom is.... use the little green feet for your big green egg. why take the risk? they are relatively inexpensive i bought extras to keep the pizza stone off the plate setter and they make nice feet for large potted plants, too

It may well be a matter of where people live whether or not they can get by without the feet. But here in Illinois our weather fluctuates. I was a non believer and sat my large on a thick paver. During a cook one rainy cold day I heard a loud crack and found that paver had broken in pieces. From then on I have used feet and pavers.
