someone recently posted here about fasterfox, a firefox extension that is purported to "speed up" firefox. i happened to read the post and chose to install fasterfox. the problem is ffasterfox created a lot of unwanted headaches for me. after lots of time and research i discovered that fasterfox was the culprit.

if you implemented this firefox extension, then you may want to read the link below. admittedly it is an old article, but it simply describes some of the problems it may cause you (google "problems with fasterfox" if you want more info). decide for yourself if you need this extension or not. i chose to uninstall fasterfox.

i was going to get it, but did a little research and found it was potentially a big problem. some sites block it, because it preloads every link and sucks bandwidth. but i could see where it would slow you to a crawl because it's loading all that stuff in the background.

I saw the post as well, but decided that my firefox was fast enough, as it really kicks the crap IE.

If you want a faster browser, try Opera. I find the layout sort of odd. Not bad, just unfamiliar, so I don't use it a lot yet. However, it is really peppy.

Try selecting, from the FireFox menu, "Tools -> "Addons". You should find it listed there; and, you should also find an "Uninstall" button. I didn't install it, so I cannot completely verify that this will work. But if it is a "well-behaved" add-on you should be able to remove it easily.

I don't use firefox, but if there is no easy [uninstall], you can do a [find] from the desktop (command-f) for fasterfox and move everything from the found menu to the trash. If it is really imbedded you may have to hold down the command button while you drag it and do a restart before it allows you to 'empty' the trash.

Of course, if it were a "well-behaved" add-on, you probably wouldn't be removing it, LOL!

THANKS. The add-on was labeled "Cooliris" not "Fasterfox". No wonder I couldn't find it by doing a disk search.

What is wrong with the latest version of Safari? I'm using it with no problems and it's plenty fast... compared to Camino and IE.

cooliris and fasterfox are two different extensions which do two different things. cooliris is good! fasterfox is bad! (im my opinion, of course).

i continue to use cooliris to preview what is at the end of a link. it does everything that it says it will without any problems that i am aware of.
