This Egtoberfest thing
Options
Hello Folks,[p]I have been an Egg owner for a couple of months now. I absolutely love it and cook on it several times a week. I've had some good cooks, some not so good cooks, and some awesome cooks. I am learning and enjoying the whole experimentation thing.[p]I live in the Atlanta area and have been interested in attending Egtoberfest - not as a cook but instead as an observer. I know the deadline to register is coming up soon. So here is my question - just how does this whole thing work? My wife and I are both somewhat introverted, overly-polite people. I want to attend and mingle and learn as much as I can, but I just can't see walking up to a stranger, grabbing their food, and swapping egg stories with them. Is that how it's done? Assuming I have paid my entry fee of course. Do we ask before we eat someone's food? Is there certain areas where you do eat or don't eat? Do we just walk from egg to egg and strike up conversations? Is there an organized flow of gawkers or is it just walk around as you like? I want to attend but am just worried about being rude or overly presumptious. Please advise. Thanks.

Hub,
never been to eggtober but cooked at few other small fests. the cooks bring and cook their food for you to taste [grab] and are more than happy to share their expertise.just like this forum... make your self at home, so to speak. if you are introverted put a name tag on that says "new egg owner" they will take care of you from there. promise. or i will refund your money

Hub,[p] Let me make this easy for you. [p][p]Look for me.. Say "Hi I am hub." I'll hand you the food [p]Ohhhh I have really short hair now..[p]
-
Hub,
It is organized chaos. LOL A lot of people. Just walk up and strike up a conversation. Every one is willing to take the time to help. As far as food goes. Some things go so quick you won't beleive it. So ask the cook to maybe save some for you. I always set back a bunch of ribs for forum members.[p]Mike
-
Car Wash Mike,[p] I hear your idea of a bunch is what two bones.. HAHAHA[p]I pick up the Andouille early next week. Start making the Tasso on the 15th. [p]
-
Celtic Wolf,
Chubby spiced up one slab up for himself. I sent another slab to the guys inside for their great effort. Set another slab in the back for others. Egret couldn't stand them but had 6. LOL When people are walking in with forks in their pockets, cooks are in for a long day. Poor Spawn, when it was time to pull her brownies, dad was nowhere to be found with plates. Wise One and myself helped her. I'll never forget her yelling at Max.
I need to spend a little time with you and your Dutch Ovens.[p]Mike
-
Car Wash Mike,
does that mean you are going?
-
Rick's Tropical Delight,
I don't have a clue yet. I'm still planning on it.[p]Mike
-
Car Wash Mike,[p] I'll be the one in the red hat [p]
-
Car Wash Mike,
save me some ribs.
-
Hub,
i'm kind of introverted too and this is my first eggtoberfest so i know how you feel. don't get to close to the egg i'm cooking on, cause i'm liable to throw on a couple ounces of rum at any time for the flambe'! hahaha[p]don't worry, it's gonna be a blast!
-
Car Wash Mike,
Yeah right! I'm still waiting for one from last year. -RP
-
AZRP,
You got some in Oklahoma. Right? [p]Mike
-
Car Wash Mike,
Wrong, you hid them for your forum buddies. -RP
-
AZRP,
You were helping serve. Operator error on your part. LOL[p]Mike

Hub, CWM's description of "organized chaos" is right. Everyone is cooking and handing out samples not full meals or even full portions. However, after about 100 of these samples you will find yourself very full. Some people chat others just grab a sample and move on. You will find yourself ready to ask some questions and that's really what it's all about. EGG people getting together with other EGG people - some they knwo and many they don't. Come and enjoy.
-
Car Wash Mike,[p]Save me a rib - I'll trade you some pulled pork and baked beans![p]I barely got one of your ribs last year. I almost lost a couple fingers in the process . . .
-
Hub,
Bring your own fork and be prepared to eat some great food and meet some cool people. Scan the area for lines forming, thats the people in the know waiting for samples. This years waldorf eggfest was our first and we had an absolute blast. I had many of the same thoughts you had going in, but an eggfest is hard to put into words. The best thing is to just go and see for yourself.
-
Hub,[p]just show up - you'll catch on in about 5 min.... and you'll love it![p]see you there!
Andy

Hub,
Register right now. It is a lot of fun. You'll see name tags of folks you recognize and just start talking. My wife does the "I don't know these people" routine but she still has fun.....and has gotten to know a few folks even though she does not post or read much here.[p]I wish I had started going to fests long before I attended my first.[p]
Oh I'm not as scary looking as Pete :>)[p]
-
dhuffjr,[p]He could run into this one first!![p][p]
-
Celtic Wolf,
Chubby feeling the love in the air tonight! LOL[p]I keep hyping your sweet taters n hame to the picky eating daughter :>)[p]H
-
dhuffjr,[p] Guess I better keep it on the menu
-
Celtic Wolf,[p]That is a really scary pic. [p]And even with short hair, you would be a twin for Vincent Price in The Fly.[p]For once, I'm glad that I'm half a world away and won't make it to Eggfest.
-
-
Rick's Tropical Delight,[p]LOL! I'm sure you're right - but his interest was probably more in the egg as an altar than a cooker!
-
Car Wash Mike,
I'll be there, Mike, so save one for me, please![p]Gwen
