calibrad,
Well said! I started out lurking as most of us did. Graduated to answering some of the questions posted here. Then, went to an eggfest and met some of the people I knew only by their "handle". This began a relationship with many eggers that grew with continued participation on this forum and with attendance at other eggfests. It takes time to develop all this, but, we all have felt like outsiders in the early stages. We don't have a limit as to how many eggers we accept into this "cult". Come on in, and, welcome..........

CGator,
I live in Prattville, AL... give me a ping I will help you if I can. I would like to meet some fellow Eggers and put some faces to some of the names. Hopefully, I can go to the eggfest in Atlanta this year.

HungryMan,
gotta check in more often. i probably post this twice a month!
gonna get thrown off if i post it much more.[p]not my idea, but i've been trumpeting. only thing faster is the weedburner. but i don't think there's anything both this cheap AND this fast,[p]first thing is a couple napkins (above pic).
then drizzle lightly with oil, don't soak, but don't skimp.[p]03.jpg[p]then twist and light. the oil keeps the paper from simply smoldering, there's no ash like dry paper, and it throws HUGE flame. three of these and you will hit 700 in 15 minutes.[p]04.jpg[p]05.jpg[p]i build a teepee over the flames with bigger chunks of lump, mainly because i like to screw around with fire.

• RRP,
Some people are just afraid that they might have a good time!

• I think eggfest would be a blast. I am going to try to get away this year. My wife planned a birthday party for our son last year and family came in from out of town. I was not going to be very popular if I left town for Atlanta.[p]Gene

• EggcredibleHulk,
aw, man... you're making me blush over here!
thanks for that.[p]here's my story:
i took a "foods" home economics class in 9th grade. ever since then, i was hooked on cooking. i thought a was doing pretty good on my gasser and brinkman water smoker. then i hear a few things about the egg and i saw one at the gasser replacement part store. i think to myself "what the heck is this thing!" then i look at the price tag. HOLY CARP! i buy the gasser replacement burner and "flavor bar" and i leave.[p]then i start researching the egg on the internet, not so much this forum, but the main egg site. every day i pass close to the egg store on my way to work. finally, i can't stand it any more and i "just do it" bring "martha" home. that was 28 sep 2006. my life is forever changed![p]i struggle a little with fire control and lighting issues. i read the forum, lurking at first, but still reading and learning. the cooks get better, and better, and better.[p]the forum goes through some interesting things, tuff times and issues when i first started coming here. eggtoberfest 06, kennyg passes away, then thanksgiving and all the mad max turkey posts. i am overwhelmed by the tight knit group called the "big green egg cult". like any typical family, they share their experiences, good and bad, and grow together.[p]i've been taking photos of food i prepare since the beginning. not sure why really, but it has grown into an obsession. i remember my first posts here with photos and signing as *another lonely moron that takes photos of food* hahaha! one day, i would like to be making some cash from my obsession with photography and food and the egg. that's why i got a little excited about the copyright issue earlier last week.[p]i can see why people don't post here sometime. some of the off topic stuff can be too much, too often, and too off topic. sure would be nice if and when the "better" forum gets going if there was an "off topic" and "other discussion" area so the main forum can keep on topic to the egg and culinary questions and masterpieces.[p]as stated below, it's pretty hard to read and fully understand someones comment by just the typed letters and words. a lot of the "intent" is lost when you can't see the persons body language and hear their tone. sometimes i read some stuff here and think "what would a newbie think?" i'm willing to bet they may go away for awhile, but they come back because the positive things about this forum overweigh any perceived negative things. i've done it myself, several times.[p]so anyway... have a look at this platter of jerk chicken i made last sunday! [p][p]

• Rick's Tropical Delight,
Your pics sure are a part of what keeps me coming back. gotta say that to my eye they are technically flawless, artistically stunning and they capture the 'soul' of food, I'm not sure how competitive the 'pro food photog' field is, but yours top what I see in most food mags, and maybe you're thinking beyond food pics, too. thanks for sharing and keep 'em coming...

CGator,
Tell them you are having a birthday party at an undisclosed location for your son and you are gong to have the event catered. Rent a Van and register all your guests for Atlanta. They will all be so suprised to see how big a party is thrown :=) Don't forget to make room reservations.

Rick's Tropical Delight,
I agree whole heartily with what you said. I don't post my medical exams on here along with buying vehicles, etc.... It would be nice if we could stick to the green egg and cooking. We all can use good and great tips from time to time. AZ

Marlin Darlin,[p]What do you mean? When you create a profile it will be listed under the "Newest Added Profiles' section on the visitor profiles page.[p]It will take a couple days sometimes before your posts will link to your forum profile. Just be sure to enter your name the same way each time and give it a few days.[p]Fidel

RRP,
I lurked long before I got my egg and hesitated to post much initially. But now I have a feel for the forum, and can tell based on experiences elsewhere, that people here are good natured, friendly and willing to help.

• Fidel,
I may have used the wrong terminology. When entering my info for my profile, the site won't accept my submission. When I click "send info" it throws me out of the forum site and sends me back to the Big Green Egg main site. I've tried several times with the same results. I've checked days later and my profile does not exist. Several other "newbies" reported the same problem on another post. Can anyone help?

RRP,[p]I have been trying to do my part this week... I am a newbie since 4/27/07, so I think I qualify for a newbie... Although I have been trying new things each Sunday, since purchasing my egg... [p]Two Sundays ago, I did a beef stew that was to die for on my egg... The only thing missing was the browning on the top of the stew...
