Egg/Oven Mitts

I need suggestions for mitts that I can reach into the Egg with. I was doing a spatchcock chicken Friday night, on a homemade raised grid, one with the stainless bolts. Well, about 50 minutes in I decided to check the temp and when I did I knocked the grid over. While I didn't knock off the chicken it took me some hot maneuvering to get it back level. I think I singed my arm!!! I guess I want something I can grab a grid with as well as maybe a pizza stone or is that even possible?

FSUScotsman,
i have, and love, my "orca" mitts. ..you can buy them at most kitchen supply stores (both high end like williams sonoma and low end ones like at the outlet malls). .. .work great up to 600 degrees. ...you can grab hot plate setters, grids, pots, etc. . ..

mad max beyond eggdome,
I've seen those at Kohls department stores and either Target or Meijers I can't remember which.

mad max beyond eggdome,[p]Orca? Is that a brand name? Style?

Hey Max, wassup? Long time no see.[p]Another suggestion ...[p]If you ever get conned into going to a Pampered Chef party and can't think of anything to buy (LOL), their silicone mitts work well too. I think the price is fairly close to the Orcas.

Pakak,
hi mark. ..there is a name i haven't seen in a long time. .. hope all is going well with you. .. .yea, i think there are a couple of silicone glove makers out there. . .i just happen to have a pair of orcas i bought at the le creuset outlet. ...i use em all the time, and to clean them, simply throw them in the dishwasher ...easy peasy ...[p]glad to see you around!!

Yeah, I’ve been away longer than I thought! I was looking through the archives and saw how long it had been and was surprised. I’ve had a lot going on in the past year. [p]Every time I see Giada, I think of you. LOL

mad max beyond eggdome,[p]Thanks guy!!! Do you all use one or two?

FSUScotsman,
For some handling I prefer these shorty mitts which are rated at 550 just like the orka.
OTOH when I'm digging down in a hot fire you can't beat these for protection. BTW these are the shorter version and they sell ones that go to your elbow for several dollars more.

FSUScotsman,
I got mine off ebay for $9.00 plus S&H. Very nice and work great. I just throw them in the dishwasher to clean.[p][p]Spring "Still Tired From EggtoberFest" Chicken

FSUScotsman,[p]You guys want to spend Orca money go ahead. I have a pair of red leather welding gloves with long gauntlets I've used for 5 years now. I can lift out my cast iron grill, although I've only done that once, and as long as I don't stand there holding it it works just fine. I bought them at a welding supply store and I think they were only $8 at the time.[p]Saved a lot of arm hair too.

Sundown,
I agree in most applications the less expensive leather welder gloves work fine. OTOH when you really have to go into the bowels of near hell for a period of time the orka's are worth the money. This summer at the end of a competition cook I cleaned out two eggs that had just been at the 700 range by merely skooping up repeated handfuls of hot burning, flaming lump and dumping it into a metal bucket. I sure would not have used leather gloves for that task!

RRP,
Okay, I guess maybe I won't try that with my leather gloves! Those Orca's can do that? Really? [p]MAybe I should get a pair "just to have around".

FSUScotsman,[p]Thanks for all the wonderful info guys...it's off to the store !!!!
