    JNK,
General rules of thumb: you need one-third of a pound of meat per serving; pork butt yields about 50%. In other words, start with 2 pounds raw to get 1 pound cooked; 1 pound cooked will serve 3 portions.[p]You want 50 portions, 51 is pretty close. Divide that by 3: you need 17 pounds of cooked meat. Multiply that by 2: you need to start with 34 pounds of raw meat.[p]HTH

BlueSmoke,[p]I go with 1 butt for 10-12 people. I usually have a couple of pounds left over after feeding 50 people with 4 10 - 12 pound butts. I guess they eat alot of mine. Or maybe I do.
