Smoke pit temp thermometer placement

Just got my new Thermoworks Smoke in the mail. Going to do butt today today with it. It’s got a meat thermometer and a pit thermometer. Where do you guys usually mount your pit thermometers? Do you clip it to the cooking grate or remove the dome thermometer and stick it there? I usually don’t find the need to have a thermometer monitoring the pit temp, but I thought it would be fun just because I have one now.

My preference is to place in dome.Southeast Florida - LBGE
In cooking, often we implement steps for which we have no explanations other than ‘that’s what everybody else does’ or ‘that’s what I have been told.’ Dare to think for yourself. -
Pick a spot on the grid or dome and go with it. I monitor the grate temperature. If you go with grate temp, make sure it is at least an inch from the meat and over the plate setter.Pittsburgh, PA. LBGE

I’ve got mine about an inch from the meet, and over the plate setter and it reads about 6-8° higher than the dome, which seems perfectly reasonable. My old maverick would be about 25-30° different .
