Was cooking a brisket...came out and noticed a puddle of grease under the egg (2XL)....sure enough the base is cracked....sucks

Can't say I've heard of any 2xl's cracking. Then again ain't many of them. Good luck.

Maybe you didn't cure the gasket for the first few cooks and keep it under 300. Or possibly a clean burn did it, even tho its much less than the firing temp of the egg.
Kidding aside, sorry for your loss, and enjoy that new monster planter. It will be a cool one at that size!
