I now need a $300 teapot on my cooktop.  Beautiful, functional, art.

Would fit the small.

If you have a hankering for a cast iron teapot you'll find dozens of Japanese style pots on Amazon. Most, if not all, are made in China but they can be one tenth the price and can be found in a wide range of shapes/colors/patterns.

TOWA "Made in China, processed in Japan.", no deal.
This is like buying a "traditional" molcajete.  Tons and tons of crap out there to sift through.

Most are enamel lined, no good for fire.

The Taku is worth it, way out of my price range though.  Haven't found any old Griswold CI kettles yet.

    Maybe, maybe, income tax time?
Would be a nice piece to pass down, better than a painting or trinket to stare at.

Funny, how a Martha Stewart episode where her and students were talking up the quality Japanese CI cookware during a skillet pizza, led me here.  =)

Technically, the Taku cookware is also made in China since it is made in the Republic of China (aka Taiwan).

Teapots are made for brewing tea inside them and almost all cast iron teapots will be lined with an enamel or ceramic glaze. You're right, those are not really intended for use on high heat.

Tea kettles are only intended for heating water and NOT brewing tea inside them and thus they will be bare cast iron (no interior glazing) and suitable for use on any heat source (including live fire).

Thanks, I stand corrected.  Thought Taku was Japanese.

    So, it's a $300 water boiler?

Thought you just steeped in the same pot, off heat in iron?
Need to do some learnin' on Asian tea.  :)
