Warranty handling fee???

I have a dealer who wants to charge me a $25.00 handling fee, because I didn't buy my egg from him. He's putting it on a stock order. It was a gift from my Mom who lived in a different city. Is this a dealer thing or a corporate thing? Any input would be appreciated.

My guess is that it's a dealer thing, and that some dealers are not particularly smart about building up a loyal customer base.

My dealer handles my stuff seamlessly and I didn't buy either egg there (although I have sold about 10 for him). Never charges a fee or bats an eye when I need something. That fee is dumb. Bad business on his part

I didn't buy my egg from the dealer I use. They handle warranty claims with no fee's

I doubt this is the case, but is this possibly a misunderstanding? If you need a replacement part that is not in stock, and you won't wait for the next load of eggs to come in, the dealer will charge you a shipping fee. If he is simply wanting to charge you because he did not sell the egg, he is a bad dealer.

No special order, he told me that it wouldn't be in for two or three weeks, because I told him to place it on a stock order. I think it is totally B.S.

He told me that the charge was because I purchased my egg elsewhere. But it was a gift and I have purchased things from him. It is a Pinch a Penny store.

you can be required pay shipping for the part, sure. 

i would contact the distributor and ask them whether dealers are 'permitted' to charge for simply handling a warranty item.

hmmmm.  pretty sure there used to be a list of dealers and distributors online.  wasn't entirely up to date but now i can't even find it.

which store are you dealing with? there are two in Panama City (pinch-a-penny, and Ace Hardware).  might ask the other one instead if the other is being a d!nk about it.

the info used to be a bit easier to find.  up here in New England some of us just dealt direct with the distributor, because dealers are few and far between (or were) and didn't seem to know the policy for warranty replacement.  ...but the new HQ crew at BGE may have put th bi-bosh on direct communication with distributors.

There was no charge when I bought from a dealer in one state and made the warranty claim at a dealer in another state.

I would go to a different dealer. I'd probably tell the other guy that his 25 bucks just cost him a lot of negative publicity, too. Hell show him this thread.

I really don't know if he really cares. He was the only dealer until a year ago. Everytime I go in there he seems to have less and less stuff. I think I need to find a new dealer. I did buy a Medium from him.

Wow. You bought an egg from the dealer but the egg in question... I would have told that dealer to F off in a New York Minute.

Yep. New Years resolution for @tcracing should be to find a new dealer.

If your mother still has the receipt you could get warranty stuff covered, at least at another dealer. Some buy a used egg and use the old owner for warranty work. I don't believe in that, but since the egg was bought for you that is totally legit.

He didn't buy it there. Please leave the "ass-showing" to the professionals. @sgh
