OT: Hiking across America, red all the way

Wow, check out this map.  On the left hand side click on the county by county view.  One could walk across the country from the Atlantic to the Pacific in several relatively straight lines never once stepping on blue.

we saw exactly what it looked like. The blue areas accounted for more votes than the red areas. Bears don't vote.

I don't understand how they can say my home county (Macomb County Michigan) is a blue county. Detroit, I understand, however where I live, we are all red.

This is kinda what the Brexit vote looked like - urban/metropolitan areas voted to stay in the EU, but non-urban/rural areas voted to leave.

Hopefully, we wont need have that level of remorse in the US.

I don't think it says, but is this measuring % of residents with degrees (eg % of current population old enough to have had opportunity to get degree) or is this in some way measuring where people came from or where they got their degree?  What I didn't read was anything that accounted for the supply of jobs that require a degree - you're going to live where the work is.
