I believe there might
be some better options than just getting a new Platesetter...any strong feelings one way or the other? With that said...I mostly just do 3-8 racks of ribs at a time, 4-6 butts at a time...occasional steaks and chicken breasts...any pointers appreciated.

Ar from cgs with spider, stone, oval grids slide guides and cross bars. Youll never look back....

I'd take the free warranty replacement from BGE if you have it. If not, as above said there are some nice alternatives.Milton, GA
XL BGE & FB300 -
Thanks guys...no warranty on this one. I'll look into the ar and options.

After my wife broke my platesetter (no warranty as I picked up the XL from Craigslist), I went with Adjustable Rig/Woo combo, and added all the accessories from CGS and couldn't be happier. Gives me all the flexibility I need to do just about anything. I was so happy that she broke it, I had been eyeing this setup for some time but couldn't really justify the cost.

CTMike...funny you say that...my wife picked my Platesetter up yesterday and had it break in half on her...now she feels responsible...I've had a crack running through the middle of it for years and always managed to be fine...about the 1 time I ask her to go set it in the egg it breaks in 2! After I get my new setup I'll let her know I was never really upset or heartbroken!!

Same story here, cracked platesetter, replaced with woo2 and stone for an XL. The stone+woo doesn't shield as much real estate, so you have to re-learn and adjust a bit. My platesetter hasn't fully broken, so I still use it when I need indirect across a larger area of the grill.

For the most cost effective route, use the broken plate setter in conjunction with a Woo from Ceramic Grill Store.
I was given a plate setter with a broken leg, I'm going to cut he legs off, use it like a pizza stone in a Woo. -
Look at the KJ divide and conquer system with the extender rack.

Get the Kamado Joe XL rig. I think it will fit your cooker. I have a large BGE and I use their rig in my egg and it works great. I think the plate setter is such a poor choice for indirect cook......so awkward to work with.Auburn, Alabama

I do love the CHS spider and half moon stones. And for under a hundred bucks it's hard to beat.
u can see the back half with stone in place if you look hard.

Thanks for all the feedback and great suggestions. Looks like I may actually get a birthday present after all!!
