The most basic question: What's a good one? I'm in the market. I figure you can probably spend a bunch but, do you need to? Any recommendations?

I have an escali brand that I bought at a kitchen store. It's been great for 2 years now. Think i paid $40 for it.
This is the one I have: http://www.amazon.com/Escali-Digital-Scale-Stainless-Steel/dp/B0122XJVXY/ref=sr_1_25?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1463510571&sr=1-25&keywords=scale+escali

$20 at Wal Mart and I've got zero complaints so far (3-4 months) http://www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-Glass-Digital-Kitchen-Scale/49883592--Because I'm like ice, buddy. When I don't like you, you've got problems.

Depends on what you are using it for. How precise do you need to be?
Look for one that does both ounces and grams would be my recommendations, but I use mine for making sausage (measuring out spices) and making beer)
I'd have to look at what they are when I get home because I have no idea on brand.

We use the OXO Good Grips 5-Pound Food Scale with Pull-Out Display. Had it for a number of years. It's $30 at Amazon and reads to 1/8 ounce which comes in handy when measuring small amounts.

the escali does pounds, ounces, grams, ml, liquid ounces (not sure how the claim to do that but I've never tried it). Goes up to 7lbs I think. My only complaint is that I have wished it went up to 20lbs a few times. No biggie though. Next one I buy will be bigger and go heavier

Oxo, with the pull out display so you can read the weight a full 2.5 inches away from the base. It's the best, Jerry. The best!

I appreciate all the recommendations. I certainly want one that can measure in grams as well as ounces. I'm also hoping to find a good one that can weigh 10 pounds or more.Large (sometimes wish it were an XL) in KS

I got the one Ron has listed above. I got it at his recommendation to be used just as you are going to use it. I am super pleased with it!--------------------------------------------------

17.6 (8 kg) capacity. Works great for me.
Has bakers percent, lb, oz, g, kg. A bit lacking on the tiny measurements (yeast amounts for example) but I believe it's the same resolution as other scales that only go up to 11 lb (5kg).

RRP said:Thanks! I use mine all the time and on of the nice features is that removable stainless steel top for ease of cleaning. Besides that it is a battery miser - I'm still on my initial battery and I do occasionally use the back lit lighted dial feature!
Still on the original battery too.
