Need dimensions for top of table

Options
Good morning fellow eggers!

I am having a custom egg table built out of cedar by a local craftsman. I looked into using mahogany but it is insanely expensive!  My BGE is a large.  I plan to use old remnant slabs of granite for the top (left over from a kitchen reno).  The table guy says I will need the granite top to be 29.5" in depth to accommodate the egg as well as leave a standard overhang edge.  With these dimension I will need to purchase new granite since my remnants are only deep enough for a 26" top.  For those who have built a table for a large egg, what is the ideal depth for the top while also leaving a reasonable size overhang on the edge?

I really appreciate everyone's help.
