Today I'm egging Georiga Red Wings and if you've ever made them you know they are a mess at the outset. What I like to do is remove the grill from the egg and arrange the raw wings. Otherwise leaving the dome open while placing 38 pieces my fire will get away from me. I've used an inverted metal garbage can lid to clean grates, but today I decided to use it to avoid the clean up mess. It looks like this:
The lid is convex so it doesn't lay flat so I made this simple wooden frame and then placed 4 rubber stool stops to keep the lid from moving.

That's a great idea! No mess dripping on the plate setter and fire stays consistent. Definitely will be doing that from now on!LBGE in Elm Grove, WI

Nice Ron...I use a plastic, round water heater drip pan I got from Home Depot.
It sits flat and it's easy to clean. They come in several sizes. I also use a larger one to hold my XL grids and Rig.Thank you,DarianGalveston Texas -
Still chuckling over it an hour later. Not only is it a trash can cover, but you've built a special support for it. Can't wait for the next issue of "BBQing with trashcan lids" in a couple of months.

It is a neat idea, although I'd probably go with @Photo_Egg's hot water drip pan ... or a round Little Giant 15 Gal Feed Tub from Farm & Fleet - http://www.farmandfleet.com/products/128413-little-giant-duraflex-rubber-feed-pan.html?feedsource=1&gclid=CjwKEAjw1_KwBRDEz_WvncL4jGwSJAAEym0d85MA_N1sLAZ25d587zF8GFtSPH20mv4LcS7Txt1_mxoChv7w_wcB

Genius!Coleman, Texas
Large BGE & Mini Max for the wok. A few old camp Dutch ovens and a wood fired oven. LSG 24” cabinet offset smoker. There are a few paella pans and a Patagonia cross in the barn. A curing chamber for bacterial transformation of meats...
"Bourbon slushies. Sure you can cook on the BGE without them, but why would you?"

Great idea for sure, I like the metal lid because I could also put a hot grid with food and not worry about melting something plastic. What are Georgia red wings?
I'm only hungry when I'm awake!
