New Small Egg - 100% Unnecessary - Couldn't Resist

I'm a sucker. A big one at that. Ace had a coupon in the Thanksgiving circular that was buy one item under $30 get it 50% off. Not a bad deal. I figured I could maybe find an egg accessory for under $30. So I ran over to Ace and the first thing I see is a big red Kamado Joe. I don't see any Big Green Eggs. My first thought was Ace might have jumped ship with BGE. I finally notice a XL BGE towards the back. They have always had a XL, Large, and Small for floor models. As I go to take a peek at the XL I notice the small sitting next to it. So I glance at the XL price for $1200. Yep, still expensive. For shits and giggles I glance at the small and read $299.99 final closeout. What?!!!!! My mind starts racing. It's saying, ”buy it, buy it, buy it, buy it you idiot!” than my conscience comes into play ”you fool you have a small egg already, you don't need two” So my wife comes over cooly and says, ”are we buying another egg?” My mind continues to race. I told her that I needed to go to the car and figure this out. More thoughts, ”what is the benefit of two small eggs”, ”you won't ever find this price again”, ”$300 can be spent much better elsewhere”, ”You have a $10 off Ace coupon”. My head was spinning. My friend (who lives on ground level in an apartment) text me wanting to meet up and tip a few beers back. I texted him back pleading for him to buy the small so I didn't have to. His response, ”Dude, the last time I had the Weber going the neighbors called the cops thinking the apartment was on fire. Next thing you know the fire truck was here and firefighters wanting to bust my door down! I can't do it. But you can never have too many green eggs.” Damn it. That's not what I was hoping for. My next thought was that I could sell my mini. I don't use it that often and I bought it used. It would be more of an upgrade and I'll get some extra cash to put towards the new small. So I explain it to my wife. Her response, ”It's too cute to sell. If you sell it I'm buying it!” So the mini stays. Again, how do I spend $290 on something I 100% don't need? Which made a light bulb go off in my head. I've had a bucket of change sitting around the house forever. I have always told myself that the change that I have saved up would go towards something completely stupid or unnecessary. Well this might just be that time! So I go to my bank and cash the change out. $156 dollars. Not bad for a bucket of change! My wife is also going to cash in her change so she can say that we bought the egg with change! So that's the story. A small egg we 100% don't need.

What a buy I don't blame you but don't sell the mini. Lol

Awesome job V, if you wouldn't have pulled the trigger I would have kicked your butt. I have a small as well and the price you got is 50% less than I paid for the same dang thing. I would have bought it for sure. Great score!

@WeberWho?-better to be lucky than good any day! Great score at a most eggceptional price. And it sounds like it was a fun adventure to get there. Congrats and go forth cooking way more food than you can consume just because you have the BGE real estate!Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

I fully understand. Sometimes a mans wants out weighs his needs. I have far more cookers than I will ever need. But I want them. Smokers are like guns, they just call out to me.

You guys are killing me. First a Kamado Joe for less than $200 ... raced to my Ace Hardware just in case 'cuz they carry Kamado Joe ... the owner said "You've got to be kidding me!" Then a small for $299 ... sent my son over to the local Ace in his area ... he said the store closed permanently ... yesterday. Mumble, mumble, mumble.

For that price I would have jumped on it too. If you decided that you didn't want to keep it you could easily sale it and turn a profit.Location- Just "this side" of Biloxi, Ms.

I'm the guy that bought the Joe for $127.50 and the deflector for $10. I didn't need it at all, but a deal is a deal! Pretty hard to walk away. If you really decided you didn't want it you could "pay it forward" and sell it to a member that really needed a deal.In the bush just East of Cambridge,Ontario

I think the small Big Green Egg is getting the Axe at my Ace. The one I bought was the floor model. (Last in stock) The employee said they couldn't sell enough smalls. I think they're only going to be carrying the large and XL. Too badthetrim said:@WeberWho? Why didn't you buy two new ones at that price?
