Baking bread/Cinnamon Raisin Bread

Hey guys, I have read many recipes in terms of baking loafs of bread but do any of you have any tips or any tried-and-true steps that can almost guarantee that I won't screw up? My son and all of his friends will be sleeping over this weekend and I thought it would be a nice touch. I have not tried to bake anything before on my egg. I don't think burning a pizza counts.
