My First Pizza - With New Woo

So I got my Woo today and tested it with my first pizza cook on the egg. I made 2 pizzas: 1 pulled pork chicken. I was quite pleased with the results. Also, the chicken was with homemade crust, the pork was a crust from Dominos pizza. My favorite was the pork pizza.

BTW, the second was a BBQ pulled pork pizza. Not sure where I went wrong with my ingredients but it sure was crispy without being dark at all. Maybe too much flour??
-
Nice topping choices and they look delicious.
-
Thank you @anzyegg - the toppings included 4 cheese mix, 3 pepper mix, mushrooms, and Jalapeños. Of course the meats as well.
-
Looks great! Not sure why you didn't get the color you wanted but looks tasty anyways!Chicago, IL - Large and Small BGE - Weber Gasser and Kettle

The pork one using the Dominos crust was fabulous. It was my homemade one that I have to look into.
Both tasted good though. -
BTW, I was using my Woo with plate setter @550 degrees. Cooked pizzas for about 10-12 minutes
-
Did you have another stone in addition to the PS? That would be needed.Seattle, WA
-
-
@SkinnyV - I used a pizza screen instead of a stone. Screen was placed directly on the grill grid.
-
@cook861 - thank you!
-
IMO you need a second stone, that's why your bottom out cooked the top.
I may be wrong but only way I've done is plate setter, air gap and then second stone that the pizza sits on.Seattle, WA -

My bottoms were great. The only issue I had was with my homemade dough. Must have miscalculated something wrong. It was crispy but no signs of 'burning'.
-
I stand corrected then, I thought I saw differently from the pic above. .
Nice to know it works just fine.Seattle, WA -
Gonna be hard to order out for pizza. Well done.LBGE& SBGE———————————————•———————– Pennsylvania / poconos

@Zarcon Question what type of grate is that in the pic where you are showing the crust.Garland, TX

Thank ya brother @SGH
@Thecoiman - TBO I couldn't tell you. My son works at a Domino's Pizza which is how I got the other dough and how I got that 16" pizza screen
-
Great looking pizzas!!!! I'm not making pizza until I get a woo. Just can't get them right.XL BGE, LG BGE, and a hunger to grill everything in sight!!!Joe- Strongsville, OH

@Zarcon .. did you prepare the pies on the Pizza Screen ie. rolled them out and put the toppings on it on the screen? I am looking to order some screen and they are fairly cheap. If I can make pies like you did, my family will be very happy :-)LBGE & MiniOrlando, FL

@jcaspary - Thank you. I am loving my new Woo already.
@fljoemon - I stretched the dough on the counter to the size I wanted, then placed it on the screen. Once on the screen, I then sauced and topped it. Once done, Picked up the screen and placed it directly on the grill grid. As stated above, I was using my Woo with the plate setter.
Note: At about 5 minutes,in, I took my grill gripper and rotated the pizza screen 180 degrees to keep it cooking evenly.
-
hmm I really like the idea of the screen, I'm gonna see if I can find some at a restaurant supplier or something. The parchment thing works, but it would save the hassle of opening the lid and trying to pull it out, also no more corn meal!. Has anyone ever tried aluminum foil? I would think it would transfer the heat of the stone instantly and could remain underneath for the entire cook. I realize some people see the porousness (<<< word?) of the stone as beneficial, but would using parchment also not take that away?
Anyways looks a lot better than my few attempts. Always been good, but not quite perfect
-
@poster - What I would be afraid of using aluminum foil is the dough sticking to it prior to cooking. I suppose you might be able to rub some oil or spray it with cooking spray but Im not sure.
But FWIW - for $10 you can get a 16" pizza screen off amazon and save yourself the 'guessing':
