Need Help with temp

So this is the second time that I have used my egg. Daisy wheel closed off. Bottom vent is closed as well. Temp is 400. Which is great as I am about to do a spatchcock. Not so great for the butt I plan on cooking next weekend. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

    How long has your fire been burning? How long when your vents or dome open before you got to these settings?

    Too long. I think i let it get to hot and didn't give it long enough to cool back down. I put chicken on at 400 and it slowly started falling. So I have had to open it up some now.

    You lit too much lump and let it burn too long before you shut it down.
    Be careful, man! I've got a beverage here.

    If you shut it down as soon as you lit the lump, it would go out. If you do what you did, you get what you got. Somewhere in between is the sweet spot.

    I was prepping chicken and didn't pay attention. It got in the 7range when I started shutting it down. Think I got it now. Thanks guys.
