It's been a long time since I last post however I have been enjoying reading the forum. I purchased a large BGE two years ago and have loved it. Due to a ton of traveling for business I have not used my grill much in the past year and really only cook for two maybe three people. So I decided to add a BGE and purchased a mini yesterday. I used it last night and love it already. So I wanted to get some info, pointers, etc from mini owners. First question, when using the plate setter for indirect cooking there is not much room between the grate and plate setter so you can't use a drip pan so what do you use just alum foil? What has everyone been cooking on their mini? I did London broil and chicken last night. Really looking forward to using it a lot this summer and when I have company I will use both BGE's. Happy cooking. Thanks for your time reading my post. Cheers, Frank

I use foil. It works fine for grill full of chicken, etc.LARGE, MINI BGE SAN DIEGO, CA An alcoholic with a barbecuing problem.

I cooked steaks on mine all the time when its just the wife and I.I just got done with rib eyes tonight, but I also cook chops, chicken, burgers, small beef tenderloin and small prime rib.you will love the mini I guarantee.

I have a mini-woo instead of a plate setter, but the space is narrow there, too. Foil with a lip. You really can cook anything on a mini that you cook on a large as long as it will fit. Someone even did a small butt. You can find a bunch of "magic mini moments" on youtube; here's the fifth version.Steaks, burger, chicken pieces. Boned and stuffed Cornish game hens. Stuffed pork loin. Planked salmon. @Mickey has a round CI griddle without a handle that I've wanted for some time to extend the possibilities. When cooking for just two, I use the mini 99 percent of the time.*******Owner of a large and a beloved mini in Philadelphia

I don't have a mini, but I hope it would be alright for me to ask this question. @chashans @mickey ... When you post those pictures, how do you get them to show up large on your post. When I post something from my Iphone, they show up as small. Thanks. @flmtrain I apologize if I shouldn't have asked this question on your thread since it didn't pertain to your subject.

I am been thinking about a mini also, or a small. I used to cook on a cheap grill in my fireplace in the winter. Just open the damper, light the charcoal in the chimney starter and the smoke goes right out! You can't even smell the food cooking! I bought my LBGE right after christmas and haven't grilled indoors since!! I think a mini or small would fit in my fireplace I might just have to take my log grate out. What do you guys think?

with my mini knockoff vision kub i light on top for direct cooks and light thru the bottom and use foil laying directly on the lump for indirects. i dont really need a platesetter in the mini

@ktm101 - Cooking in the fireplace is a novel idea. I guess you're limited by the size of the fireplace and how well it draws the smoke and CO. Personally, I wouldn't do it, but that don't mean anything. Remember to factor in room for lifting the dome when determining if your fireplace is big enough to egg in.Flint, Michigan

Fred, Thanks for the reply. I have been doing it for years and love it! Nothing like sitting in your living room cooking some burgers or steaks on the grill with a foot of snow on the ground! I even have a CO detector beside my fireplace and its never been set off, my chimney drafts good though..
