Just a little warning to all you people in this zoo make sure your thermo pen is locked before you stick it in your pocket or put it in with the point facing up. I was taking beer & plate out to the Egg and was taking the thermo pen too so I stuck it in my pants pocket. It wasn't locked all the way & the point was down, well that bastid opened up as it slid in my pocket. Lucky for me and Mr. Herkamer the point went out my pant leg and not into my baby maker. How do you eggsplane that to the E.R. nurse.  :((

I laugh but then I don't  - I bought my first Thermapen maybe 11 years ago and BTW it is still operating on the original battery!...then several years later they came out with their waterproof model which essentially is still the one they sell today. The biggest difference between the two models is my oldest one opens and closes with ease! The newest one about breaks my thumbnail getting it open and then needs effort to shut it. Lesson learned is I love my old non-waterproof model so I protect it far more than the new one which I ONLY use ocassionally! Just be glad you didn't sterilize yourself!

I've had my SuperFast Thermopen in every Orifice my body has...funny how different the temperature ranges are...

My toddler almost walked into my thermapen once.... Left it open on the counter and it was hanging off.
Good PSA to always. Close it when not in use.

Another tip - don't walk on an icy deck with the thermopen open.  They may find your body with an internal temp reading the same as the outside temp.  However, it may help the coroner figure out time of death.

@bud182 - you would have had a 3 sec temp reading though. 

Yeah, that point is sharp! I've come close to stabbing my hand a couple of times.

No IT needed, I could tell in was rare cuz there was still blood coming out.
