Proud Papa Boast

My boy had his belt test today for his Blue Belt in Wado Shiho Kai Karate. His Dojo doesn't test very often (which I am in favor of as my Dojo back in the day was a belt mill).

Anyway, he's been very focused and disciplined each and every time he enters his Dojo and it shows.

This was a VERY nice roundhouse kick from his opponent and he blocked/avoided it easily... I was impressed.

His Shihan and Sensei have been singing his praises for months and today they rewarded him for his diligence.

They tested him for Blue Belt... then they decided to test him for Green Belt and he was awarded his Green Belt. As Shihan alluded to in the video, we too would like to acknowledge and thank Ms. Robin (a young lady who is a student and an assistant instructor) for working with Isaiah to facilitate this accomplishment. His example for his prospective sister (the four year old foster child we may be able to adopt) has been a positive one. She has declared that she wants to take Karate as well and Shihan has agreed to give her a shot (even at four and a half years old). She begins this coming Tuesday on a trial membership.

Very cool... My daughter would like to learn a martial art as well.

You should be very proud, it takes a lot of work to be able to practice them proficiently. Good luck with the adoption :)

  • Please pass our congrats onto the aspiring Isaiah, hard work has its rewards. Everything he learns in a good Dojo will be a life lesson, you have every right to be proud and boast about it.

Wish you all the best with adoption of the young lady.

    Rex approves!

  • Congrats, I have to get my daughters into some sort of martial arts.
  • Thanks y'all. The first few months it was really just entertaining to watch these young kids... but as time has passed and they begin to understand what they're doing and more importantly WHY they're doing it, watching those little ones has become an inspiration.

  • Well... tonight was the first night of karate for Danica... she did VERY good. She was focused, serious and she's insanely naturally bendy.

  • Very cool, glad to see your daughter is into it also. My son did karate for years and then on one occasion sparing he got hit hard on the nose, and hated it after that. We're taking a break for a while and we'll see how it goes.

Here are two pretty entertaining videos of him when he was younger (he's 10).

  • My youngest son was not athletic and did not do well in team sports. We got him to try Karate...has improved his strength and coordination. He loves sparring, he's become very good, which has done wonders for his self confidence. Six years later, we're still there.
