I have a fairly new LBGE. The bottom ring around the base just wont stay up! I have tightened it IMO pretty tight. Everytime I re-tighten it and lift the lid it falls again. I am a little scared of overtightening it and breaking the base. Has anyone ever used a torque wrench to measure inch pounds on the base ring?

When the bolt starts to bend you have reached the end.

Look at #24 on this site:

Are you tightening until the bolts bend? Not to state the obvious, but if it is slipping off then it is not tight so you are far from "too tight". Crank down on that beeyatch until the bolts bend.Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

You have the answer, if you have a torque wrench, as noted in BGE instructions:
Next, securely tighten both the upper and lower bands to approximately 125 inch lbs. (bending of the bolt and the flanges during tightening is normal / recommended, Don’t fear, the ceramic will not break). Make sure the dome is still evenly seated on the Egg bottom and proceed to tighten all (8) Keps nuts that attach the hinge assembly to the bands.

Make sure it isn't on upside down. I had a problem with my lid staying open and the band was upside down.
