Bourbon Sweet Taters

Options
Saw a good looking recipe for a sweet potato casserole with bourbon, on Chow, by Amy Wisnewski.  Figured I'd do a trial run before the holiday.  Taters were roasted along with a honey brined turkey breast.  After about an hour at 400 dome, they were soft, so pulled off and allowed to cool.  Cut them in half, scooped into a bowl and mashed.

Mix 1/4 cup bourbon, 6 Tbsp butter, 2 tsp orange zest, 1 tsp salt, 3/4 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp nutmeg, heat over medium heat until butter is melted and it starts to bubble.  Mix with the mashed sweet potatoes, and add 1/4 cup milk.  Spread in a pan.

Top with a streusel mix:  3/4 cup brown sugar, 3/4 cup flour, 1 tsp salt, 7 Tbsp cold butter.  Mix flour, brown sugar and salt, then cut in the butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until butter is pea size.  Add a cup of chopped pecans.  Spread evenly over the sweet potatoes.

Baked indirect at 400 for 25 minutes, while the turkey breast is resting, until topping is brown.  This one is on the list for turkey day.
