Now that I have your attention. I need to disassemble my egg and have misplaced the plastic hinge pieces. Will a heavy duty "zip strip" work?

Actually I need the answer also. I have to replace the dome, just haven'g gotten around to it yet. Thinking those hinge springs are gonna be nasty.

you don't need them, the band won't just spring up and hit you, loosen the top band all the way and lift the lid off, if you're afraid, have someone hold it down, if you're alone, tie a rope to it long enough you can stand on it. I've taken my egg apart once to do the gasket, and just had to assemble and disassemble a loaner egg at a contest this weekend. Super easy, don't over think things, it is just a bbq!

Open the top all the way and have some one hold it. You can then grab the springs with a pliers and easly pull them off.

Awesome. Thanks guys.
