Is this the same as the Maverick 732 or whatever I see people speak so highly of?
I was given this today for Valentine's day but I wonder if it's worth keeping.
I look forward to your opinions.

It's the same thing, just rebranded as BGE. Keep it....

Wrap the cables in foil, at least from the probe to the outside of the Egg.Large BGE and Medium BGE

What is the purpose of the foil? I used my Maverick 732 for this first time this past weekend and did not do that. Will it hurt anything not to use the foil?
-
I have had mine for 6 months --- use it quite often and works like a champ... takes all the guesswork out ... as for the foil... been told of that by the local BBQ dealer .. said keeps it insulated and cushioned from the heavy egg dome

If you're only using it for low & slows, you don't need to use foil. I've had my ET-73 for 8-9 years now and I'm still using the original probes and never put foil on them.Packerland, Wisconsin

That's what I believe also choke...foil helps protect if using higher temps. Check the manual on how high heat the wires are rated for...
-
I don't really see a need to use it with high temps though.

Foil is a good thermal conductor. I'm not sure it insulates from any heat, besides maybe a little radiant heat. It may even make the lead hotter. Rocks BBQ says do not wrap the leads in foil.

Definiitely keep it. It's a hell of a tool. Get comfortable with its operational functions and put it in play. You'll never look back. Maverick makes a great product. You feel silly you posted this question. Good luck!

Interesting. I don't use foil on mine but never heard anyone say not to use it.Packerland, Wisconsin
