I just got my egg last weekend and the salesman said to put the lump charcoal in up to the first line.  He told me when I was done cooking to put out the charcoal just close the bottom vent and the top one and the it would go out.  I followed his instructions and close all the vents at 7:00 PM and to my surprise at 8:00 AM the temp was still 400 degrees.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

Did you take off the cast iron vent and put the ceramic "hat" on? If not there could have been some air leaking in. I would check how well your lid seals. Take a dollar bill and close the lid on it and try to pull it out. There should be a decent amount of resistance. Repeat the process around the lip of the egg in several spots. Even with that, 400? That seems really high.

I agree....400 almost 12 hours later???  Was it really hot or maybe your therm was stuck?  I always use the ceramic cap and throw the cast iron DW in the Egg.  Still, with the bottom and top closed, even with cast iron DW, I would think the fire would still go out....with or without leaks.   Let us know what you find as this seems odd.
